  • How do i Plot a Book?

    1. Start with an Idea:

Begin with a clear idea or concept for your story. This could be a theme, a character, a setting, or a unique scenario.

    2. Outline Your Plot Structure:

    - Introduction: Set the stage by introducing your main character, the setting, and the initial situation.

    - Inciting Incident: Present a problem or event that disrupts the status quo and sets the story in motion.

    - Rising Action: Develop the plot by introducing conflicts, challenges, and obstacles that the protagonist faces.

    - Climax: Reach the story's highest point of tension and conflict where the protagonist confronts the main challenge.

    - Falling Action: Address the aftermath of the climax, tying up loose ends and resolving subplots.

    - Conclusion: Provide a resolution to the main conflict, wrap up the story, and show the character's growth or change.

    3. Create Well-Defined Characters:

    - Develop your main character (protagonist) with clear goals, motivations, and flaws.

    - Introduce supporting characters with distinct personalities and roles in the story.

    4. World-Building:

If your story is set in a unique or fictional world, develop the setting, rules, and details necessary for readers to understand the environment.

    5. Conflict and Stakes:

Ensure that your story has compelling conflicts that drive the plot forward. Make the stakes clear to the reader.

    6. Subplots:

Develop subplots that add depth and complexity to your story and intersect with the main plot at various points.

    7. Foreshadowing:

Use foreshadowing to hint at future events and create suspense.

    8. Pacing:

Balance action, dialogue, and introspection to control the pace of your story. Speed up or slow down as needed for dramatic effect.

    9. Themes and Messages:

Consider the themes or messages you want to convey through your story and how the plot can reflect them.

    10. Outline Chapter by Chapter:

Create a chapter-by-chapter outline that details what will happen in each section of your book. This doesn't need to be overly detailed, but it can serve as a roadmap.

    11. Writing and Revising:

Start writing your book based on your outline. Be open to changes and revisions as your story develops.

"go to sleep. . ." sanzu's gruff voice cuts through the still silence of the night. you suck in a sharp breath, it startled you a little—you've been tracing sanzu's pretty features with your eyes as he lays on his back next to you. his side profile never fails to amaze you; the way his thick lashes curl upwards, every dip and curve of his cute nose, his rosy lips.

"or, you can keep looking." despite the tiredness in his tone, there's an evident tease. sanzu turns to his side, giving you a full view of his face. he had his arms loosely crossed over his chest, eyes sealed shut, and forehead slightly creased from his knitted brows.

bringing a finger towards sanzu's face, you ghost it over his face; along the bridge of his nose—causing him to scrunch it a little at your soft butterfly touch—to the dip of his lips, and over the ridged skin on the corners of his mouth.

    "you're so pretty, haru. . .”

sanzu's heart pounded against his chest. thank the heavens for the moonlit room because you couldn't see sanzu's creeping blush. pretty. no one calls him that. the rosy-haired man lets out a little scoff before turning his back to you, hiding the fact that he's flustered.

you let out a soft laugh before wrapping your arms around him, tightly -his back flush against your chest. his scent engulfed you, immediately putting your body at ease.

    "so beautiful, my haru."

sanzu lets out an absent-minded hum, taking your hand in his. naturally, he'd snap at other people calling him those words but it's different with you, it always is.

You fanned yourself as you let out a long sigh, finding the situation a disaster that was bound to get worse. Ever since you woke up, you were already feeling hot from the sunny weather that wasn’t sparing anyone any mercy. It only got worse when you found out that your air conditioning broke down today of all days. It’s like you were destined to be miserable today.

You heard a knock on the door, confusing you. As far as you knew, you weren’t expecting anyone to show up. When you went to answer the door, you were surprised to see your friend Chifuyu at the door.

Despite your surprised expression, he smiled at you in greeting. “Hey, don’t look so shocked! I came here because I forgot something,” he said, inviting himself into the apartment. The nerve of him!

How would one write a shy character correctly? Many people say shyness is not a flaw, but in my eyes it appears to be that way. How isn't it a flaw and how can I write it out correctly?
  • (Introverts vs ExtrovertsIntroverts tag)

I am not sure why you think shyness is a flaw, so I have no idea what specifically to speak on here. Shyness is not an inherently bad thing, but it may hold bad connotations because shyness is often connected with things like fear, being sneaky or secretive, and having low self-esteem. While sometimes these things come hand-in-hand, sometimes they do not.

I am a painfully shy, socially anxious, and introverted person, and this is especially apparent in face-to-face contact. Do hear me out, but remember that not everyone experiences or exhibits traits and feelings the same way. Here are some things that come to mind when I talk about my own shyness and introversion:

    • I have a harder time opening up and being comfortable around other people, especially strangers. If I am somehow conned into going to a party or other social function, odds are that I will be surrounded by strangers or people I am not personally close with (and am therefore uncomfortable around). I will either lurk in a corner and do everything in my power to leave as soon as possible, or I will latch on to whomever I am closest with or whomever I feel I can tolerate and generally refuse to leave their side. Even if it is only an acquaintance from work or from back in high school, I would rather be with someone who makes me mildly uncomfortable than be around people who make me intensely uncomfortable.
    • I frequently explain my shyness by saying simply that “I hate people,” but this is not literally true. Shyness is not a fear or hatred of other people, but a general discomfort with things like making small talk, lots of people talking around me, and being put on the spot by a sudden question. People have told me that I frequently look surprised when someone asks me a question, often because my brain is now in overdrive as I try to formulate a response in a reasonable amount of time. Most often, I look surprised because I have been caught thinking, daydreaming, or otherwise distancing myself from my surroundings.
    • Similar to the above, sometimes people think I am moody, disinterested, or even upset with them because I take time to think before I speak. Where you might ask a more forward or extroverted person the same question at the same time as me, you are probably more likely to get a response faster from them than you will from me. For some people, this makes them feel like I am not interested in what they have to say, am not invested in the conversation, or that I have bigger things to think and worry about. This is not (always) true.
    • I have a hard time sitting still when I am around other people, so I fidget a lot in the company of others. I keep things like paperclips, marbles, coins, and such in the left-hand pockets of my jackets and things so that I have something to fiddle with while out in public, and I keep them around because they are a less obtrusive and annoying way for me to work off nervous energy. If I am missing such an object, I might drum my fingers against the table or armrest, tap my foot, pull at the fraying hems on my shirt or sleeves. I would rather have my marble, though, since this tends to draw less attention to me than me somehow wiggling around the bus.
    • I do not like being the center of attention, so I tend not to speak very loudly, interrupt, or make an especially hard effort to make my opinions known. I do not volunteer for things and glare at people who volunteer me against my will. Doing something like dragging me to karaoke night and throwing me the mic will make me hate you.
    • Even once you have inspired my ire, I still will not go out of my way to make it obvious that I hate you. I will make your life miserable through more subtle means: making sure you get the uncomfortable seat in my car, pretending not to hear you when you ask me to pass the salt, dallying a bit longer than necessary when you ask me to do something, or (if I really truly hate the ground you walk upon) outright refusing to do something for you.
    • I tend not to make big shows of myself or my emotions while with others. This is not to make me sound robotic: I do smile, laugh, frown, etc., but if my group starts singing and dancing in the middle of the streets, you can expect me to pick up a magazine and wait it out on the park bench. This does two things: saves me from having to participate in something that makes me uncomfortable, and gives me something to do so that no one will come up and ask me why those fools are yelling about freedom and constructing a barricade with café chairs.
    • I become very self-aware around people, and the degree to which I analyze my posture and movements is inversely proportional to how well I know the people I am with. Around complete strangers I have little to no knowledge of, I vigilantly police things like how I sit (am I slouching? will they think I am lazy?), where I place my hands (is it strange for me to have my hands in my lap, or should they be on the table? will I look more relaxed with my arms stretched out on the couch, or will that take up too much space?), where my head is pointing (if I space out, will it look like I am staring at someone or something I shouldn’t be?), that sort of thing. Around close friends, I relax much more.
    • As an introvert, being around other people wears me out. If you are an extroverted person, you may experience the opposite effect: you may like being around other people because it energizes you, where being alone wears you down. I draw my energy from being alone. I do not hate socializing, but I can only do it for so long before I get tired and need to be alone for a while. You might hear it described as introverts needing to “recharge” after social interaction, and I find that to be true in myself.

One big reason I have for doing all these things comes from the question of “What will other people think of me if…?” To some extent, I do worry about how others perceive my actions and behavior, and that influences how I act and behave. It is not a question of “Will people like me if…?” The point of shyness is not to connive my way into peoples’ hearts. Shyness is about making sure I feel comfortable in situations that make me uncomfortable.

    -Headless

EDIT—crimsonrebel brought up a great point that I have forgotten about: I hate telephones with a passion. I hate “coldcalling” people and I hate answering the house phone, and will almost never do so of my own volition. I have similar anxieties about answering an unexpected ring at the door, especially if I am home by myself.

How does shyness or introversion show itself in you, tumblbuds?

I don’t really have a request I just love anything you write💗 maybe something with girly!reader?

  • thanks lovely💗

Spencer wrings his hands behind his back, shifting from one foot to the other unhappily. He hasn’t felt this nervous since he was young —his PhDs have acted as a shield for years now. Even if he doesn’t know what to do, he physically cannot be stupid.

He feels pretty stupid. Less when you look up, smile blinding and sticky with gloss. He’s thought about how it would feel to kiss you before and he tries desperately to push the thought away now, his hands shaking where they’re hidden.

“Hey, Spencer Reid,” you say, lightly teasing as you wave him toward you. “How are you?"

    "I’m good."

"Yeah?” You gesture at the empty seat in front of you. “Are you having lunch?"

The bureau cafeteria is less of a cafeteria in the kitchen sense and more of a staff room, though hot food is served at the very back. There are couches toward the patio of an outdoor area to the left. You sit at one of the tables near the doors. The air is cold around his ankles as he sits with you.

"No, I– I came down for coffee, but the jug is empty.” It’s a bad lie. Luckily you have no idea that there’s a kitchen in the BAU offices. “You’re not?"

You turn your laptop screen to him. "I ate my lunch at my desk. I’m just catching up with my show.” Your laptop has stickers around the screen, silver shiny stars and tiny pink hearts that look like they’re made of jelly. There’s a closed bottle of nail polish resting near the keyboard. “And I’m gonna touch up my nails, too. They’re always chipping."

"They look perfect to me,” Spencer says.

You beam at him, beatific, so, so pretty, he could die. He might. “Thanks, honey. You’d look cute with painted nails, have you ever thought about it?"

Spencer honestly forgets about his nails. He should take better care of them. He thinks about hiding them under the desk. "I don’t think I could do it."

"No one’s good at it, at first. I’d paint them for you, if you wanted. I have a couple of things in my bag."

Spencer’s relieved to present freshly trimmed nails to you for painting. Your polish is a light blue colour, milky, and he assumes it’ll be the one you use on him, but you decide to ruin his life, taking his hand into one of yours. You hold his fingers in a way that presents the nail as you brush cuticle oil around the edges of his nails with a small pen brush. You chatter as you do in your way, all sweet and gentle in mirror of your touch.

He’s proud of himself for keeping his cool. To have you touching him for so long, so kindly, to have your attention, it has him squirming with a mixture of pleasure and horror. He wants to be seen by you but he doesn’t know if he likes what you’re looking at.

"You have really lovely hands,” you say, using the tip of one of your nails to scrape stray wet polish off of his skin, “do you play piano?"

    "You can tell?” he asks.

    “Pianist’s fingers,” you say. “That’s a thing, isn’t it?"

"I haven’t played much since I was younger. I got distracted by other stuff."

    "Maths,” you surmise. “And criminology?"

Everything. He pushed away a want for human connection with books and education until it got too much. Even the wisest of honeybees will brave heavy rain for a beautiful flower, and that’s sort of how he feels about you. He knows it’s stupid, knows it’s doomed, but he couldn’t not try to speak to you. You’re the prettiest girl he’s ever seen, all your lip colours and shimmery eyeshadows, the chirpy way you talk, the earnestness of your please and thank yous.

Your hands. The silver ring on your index finger dotted with tiny pink stones. Your bracelets. The smell of your perfume and your soft sweaters.

"Done,” you announce, an uncharacteristic hesitance to your tone. “Are they okay?"

You’ve done a perfect job. "They’re so neat. Thank you. I– I love it."

Your eyes linger on his hands. "I love when guys wear nail polish. You’re even handsomer now, it’s crazy. I didn’t know it was possible."

Spencer should have more style for sure, but he asks you to dinner right then and there.

You smile until the lashes kiss in the corners of your eyes and say yes. This new place opened just around the corner from your apartment, and you’ve been trying to drum up the courage to ask him all week. When Spencer hears that he almost passes out.
